The Portage Police Department will share information on Workplace Violence Safety, Active Shooter Training from 7:30 - 8:30 am on Thursday, July 13 from 7:30-8:30 am at the Best Western, in Portage, IN. Workplace violence accounted for 16 percent of all work-related fatal occupational injuries in 2014 and according to FBI estimates 40 percent of all active shooter events took place in business settings: commercial office buildings, stores, factories and warehouses.
Still, many businesses have outdated response plans, or no plan at all. It is a risk every business faces, and an exposure for which many are unprepared. It has become necessary to do more than implement safety protocols; employees need to learn how to react safely when faced with a violent situation
