Valparaiso, IN – Good News Porter County!! The Recycling & Waste Reduction District of Porter County will host their next Household Hazardous Waste Collection PLUS Paper Shredding Event on Saturday, August 9th, 2025 at Neighbors’ Educational Opportunities building located at 5201 US-6, Portage, IN from 9am to 2pm CST. Participants are asked to enter at Wilshire Drive.
 
Secure Shred Document Disposal will be at this collection event. Porter County residents are encouraged to drop off old documents including invoices, tax forms, bank papers, pages containing sensitive information and plastic credit cards to be securely shredded.
 
Residents can safely dispose of products containing: corrosive, toxic, ignitable or reactive substances. Common household hazardous waste items include anti-freeze, motor oil, batteries (household & automotive), fluorescent bulbs, paints, deck stains, pool chemicals, pesticides, and household smoke detectors.
 
NEW THIS YEAR! We will be accepting ALL paints at all of our Household Hazardous Waste events for 2025. Visit PorterCountyRecycling.org for a complete list of accepted items.
 
At the collection participants can drop off medical sharps including, diabetic needles, blood lancets, insulin pens, epi-pens, syringes, expired over the counter medicines, and non-narcotic prescriptions.
