Portage High School faculty, administrators & the Booster Club raise money for turkeys

PORTAGE – Portage Township families will have a happier Thanksgiving and Christmas thanks to Portage Township Trustee Brendan Clancy  and the Portage Township Schools.

Clancy received a donation Tuesday, Nov. 12 from Melissa Deavers, director of communications and community engagement for Portage Township Schools totaling $2,053. The funds will be used to purchase turkeys for Portage Township families this holiday season.

“A long-time supporter, who donated turkeys every year to the Portage Township Food Pantry,  wasn’t able to do so this year,” said Clancy, “so I appealed to our local community for help.  It’s incredible what this community does for each other when there is a need, and the faculty, administrators and the Booster Club are a great example of our community’s generosity.”

With a goal to raise $7,200 this holiday season, Clancy can purchase 300 turkeys; 150 for Thanksgiving and another 150 for the Christmas holiday season.  The turkeys will be distributed through the Portage Township Food Pantry.

“Along with the turkeys” said pantry volunteer Pam Boswell, “we also provide all the fixings for a complete holiday dinner.”
