Emergency room at Northwest Health – Valparaiso celebrates 10 years of service to the community

Valparaiso, Ind. – This month marks the 10th anniversary of the Emergency Room at Northwest Health – Valparaiso, located at 2000 Roosevelt Road in Valparaiso. The ER, which opened in 2015, was built in response to the community’s desire for local emergency care following the relocation of Northwest Health – Porter to the north of Valparaiso.

Since its opening, the emergency room at Northwest Health’s outpatient center in Valparaiso has cared
for tens of thousands of patients, providing quality, around-the-clock care for families in Valparaiso and
beyond.

“When Northwest Health – Porter moved from downtown to the intersection of Highway 6 and State
Road 49, residents of Valparaiso asked us to consider opening an emergency in the heart of the city,”
said Dr. Thomas Rohs, interim chief executive officer at Northwest Health – Porter. “We listened, and for
the last decade the emergency room has been a trusted place for care when minutes matter.”
Valparaiso Mayor Jon Costas praised the milestone, noting the ER’s vital role in supporting the
community’s well-being.

“The ER at Northwest Health – Valparaiso has been a cornerstone of health and safety for our city,”
Mayor Costas said. “For ten years, its skilled clinicians and caring staff have been there for Valparaiso
families in their most urgent moments, and we’re grateful for their continued commitment to our
community.”

The emergency room operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is staffed by board-certified
emergency medicine physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses and technicians trained to handle a
full range of emergencies.

“Every day, we see the difference that we make,” said Dr. Eric Achramowicz, Medical Director of
Northwest Health – Porter’s three emergency department locations, “Our patients are our neighbors,
our friends and our families. It’s an honor to here for them – and to celebrate ten years of providing
them care close to home.”
