ROLLING PRAIRIE, Ind. – D.A. Dodd is marking 30 years in business as a union mechanical contractor, celebrating three decades of growth, major capital investments and a continued commitment to the communities it serves across Indiana, Michigan and Illinois.
Founded Aug. 8, 1995, in Rolling Prairie with about a dozen employees, the company has expanded into a regional provider of plumbing, HVAC, pipe fabrication, sheet metal and building automation services. A key milestone in that growth came on April 7, 2015, when D.A. Dodd was acquired by Mno-Bmadsen, the non-gaming economic development arm of the Pokagon Band.
“When D.A. Dodd started in 1995, we couldn't dream about what it would look like in 30 years,” founder Dave Dodd said. “We had our hands full staying in business, 30 days at a time. There were 10 employees on day one, five in the office and five in the field. We had all worked together previously. We liked and respected each other, and everyone went over and above to make D.A. Dodd successful.”
New Lafayette facility boosts fabrication, team capacity
One of the most visible signs of that investment is D.A. Dodd’s new Lafayette facility, opening December 2025. The location features 34,000 square feet of state-of-the-art manufacturing space focused on automation, process workflow and employee safety.
The fabrication area includes several pieces of equipment that automate the pipe-cutting process and reduce material waste. Multiple overhead cranes maximize coverage, minimize downtime and provide flexibility on the shop floor. The space is climate controlled, well lit with natural light and includes restrooms in the work area.
Adjacent to the shop is 6,000 square feet of modern office space designed for collaboration, training and team gatherings. The office has a modern industrial design that highlights the services D.A. Dodd offers to surrounding communities. This design fosters a vibrant atmosphere, enhancing collaboration and engagement.
OJS Building Services acquisition strengthens service operations
In May 2024, Mno-Bmadsen expanded its construction portfolio with the acquisition of OJS Building Services, a Mishawaka-based HVAC, plumbing and building automation firm with roots dating back to the 1920s.
The acquisition included OJS’s 20,000-square-foot facility in Mishawaka, which has been fully renovated to house all of D.A. Dodd’s northern Indiana service operations. The consolidation brings 45 service technicians and support staff under one roof, improving daily operations, dispatch coordination and internal communication.
Working on landmark projects across the region
Recently, the company has played a key role on the Shields Hall project at the University of Notre Dame, among other notable collaborations. D.A. Dodd’s piping and sheet metal teams have helped navigate complex logistical and technical challenges while maintaining a strong safety record and adhering to tight schedules.
Once complete, Shields Hall will serve as a state-of-the-art facility designed to foster team building, enhance physical conditioning and support collaboration between University of Notre Dame research and athletics.
