CAC Youth + Teen Summer Programming consists of Youth Summer Camps and Teen Studio Intensives. Both program series provide opportunities for young people to engage in artmaking activities alongside their peers in a welcoming environment that encourages collaboration. Youth Summer Camps are generally organized around a specific theme, focus on creative play, and provide opportunities for students to experiment with various artmaking techniques and media. Teen Studio Intensives differ slightly in that they focus on a specific media with the goal of challenging students to elevate their current art skills.
These programs are perfect for families looking for summer activities for their children! All week-long programs are 5 sessions (Monday-Friday), and each session is 2.5 hours long. CAC works hard to develop a schedule that includes as many different types of artmaking experience as possible throughout the summer so that families can find a camp that both matches their child’s interests and accommodates busy summer schedules.
“It’s so much fun to build out the Youth + Teen Summer Programs schedule. I love working with CAC teaching artists to plan themes and to develop new program offerings,” said Cara Schmitt, CAC Education Director. “This year we’re really excited about a couple of our new program offerings—Experimental Art Lab and Painting, which is one of the four Teen Studio Intensives.”
Campers who attend “Experimental Art Lab” will explore the science behind creativity and turn their discoveries into amazing works of art. They’ll experiment with oil and water, light and color, chemical reactions, and motion. Each class will blend experimentation with artistic expression as young artists explore, imagine and create!
Students participating in the “Painting” Teen Studio Intensive will dive into the expressive power of color by learning about color theory, value, and temperature. Students will also experiment with painting techniques such as direct painting, scumbling, glazing, and texture effects. By the end of the intensive, students will leave with a polished work of art—perfect for a portfolio or to hang on the wall.
The first Youth + Teen Summer Program of the summer starts on June 1, 2026. For more information about all CAC Youth + Teen Summer programs and to register please visit www.chestertonart.org/youth- and-teen-classes/summer- programs
