This position would be part of the Event and Venue Division and is designed to provide assistance to the operations of the Memorial Opera House; while reporting directly to the Event and Venue Coordinator. The Food & Beverage Support would be responsible for creating and serving beverages to customers in a friendly and professional manner. This role involves mixing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, maintaining the cleanliness of the bar area, and ensuring customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills, knowledge of drink recipes, and the ability to work efficiently in a high-energy environment.
A person in this position should have strong organizational skills, professional communication skills, healthy work ethic, the ability to be flexible and multi-task, customer service skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team approach.
General Responsibilities:
Preparing and Serving Drinks:
- Mix and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to standard recipes or customer requests.
- Offer recommendations and provide detailed information about drink ingredients, specials, and promotions.
- Ensure the bar area is well-stocked with all necessary ingredients and tools for drink preparation.
Customer Service:
- Provide excellent customer service by greeting patrons, taking drink orders, and ensuring a positive guest experience.
- Engage with customers in a friendly, approachable manner, ensuring their needs are met promptly.
- Monitor customer consumption of alcoholic beverages and ensure compliance with all legal regulations.
Maintaining Cleanliness and Organization:
- Keep the bar area clean, organized, and well-stocked, including washing glasses, cleaning counters, and disposing of waste.
- Ensure all bar equipment is in good working condition and notify management of any maintenance needs.
- Clean and restock the bar at the end of each shift, preparing for the next service period.
Handling Cash and Payments:
- Process customer payments using a cash register, POS system, or other payment methods.
- Ensure accuracy when handling cash, credit cards, and receipts.
- Keep track of tabs for customers and handle tips appropriately.
Stock Management:
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels of liquor, mixers, garnishes, and other supplies.
- Assist in ordering supplies and ensure stock is replenished when necessary.
- Organize storage areas to ensure easy access to bar tools and ingredients.
Health & Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to all health, safety, and sanitation regulations, ensuring a clean and safe environment for both staff and patrons.
- Follow responsible alcohol service guidelines, including identifying signs of intoxication and refusing service when necessary.
- Maintain a clean and safe bar area, including handling broken glass and other potential hazards promptly.
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with other bartenders, servers, and kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations during busy periods.
- Assist other staff members with tasks as needed, ensuring a seamless experience for customers.
- Contribute to a positive, energetic team atmosphere.
Qualifications
• Proven experience as a bartender, barback, or in a related role in food and beverage service.
• Strong knowledge of drink recipes, alcoholic beverages, and cocktail preparation.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic math skills for handling cash and making change.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy items.
• Experience with POS systems and cash handling.
• Ability to mix a wide range of classic cocktails and creative drinks.
• Experience in high-volume or specialty bars is a plus.
Special Requirements
• Must be of legal drinking age in accordance with local laws
• Be able to obtain a liquor license through the State of Indiana
• Pass a background check
