POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Director of Communications & Engagement at Portage Township YMCA intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, determined and also builds the community’s understanding of the YMCA’s cause and impact through development and implementation of effective marketing and communications strategies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ability to successfully plan camp programs from inception to participant satisfaction, including during times of construction and occupancy growth.

  • Train and coach seasonal staff for a summer day camp. 

  • Responsible for the implementation of the camp curriculum on a daily/weekly basis. 

  • Ability to cultivate relationships with campers and staff.

  • Meet tasks assigned to position as needed. 

  • Possess a valid, USA state-issued driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and comply with YMCA driving rules to be approved to operate YMCA vehicles. 

  • Hosts staff team meetings with the assistance of the Enrichment & Recreation Coordinator. 

  • Develops and produces a weekly newsletter for parents. 

  • Possess stamina to work in the work environment described herein.

  • Float between both camps to ensure campers days are intentional.

  • Fill in as a ratio staff when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of education, training, and/or experience related to organized camping. 

  • Team Leader certification or ability to achieve certification within 4 years.

  • First Aid/CPR/AED for adults and children certified.

  • Ability to work with other departments within the YMCA.

  • Attend relevant meetings for position.

  • Previous professional experience in curriculum planning & implementation. 

  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
