SUMMARY:Water Quality Monitoring Training
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday April 5th\, 2025\, join our volunteer Water Quality Monitoring Training and learn how to test local water quality in the Little Calumet River-Galien watershed. By becoming a water quality volunteer\, you will play a crucial role in helping to collect waterway data in Northwestern Indiana. Clean local waterways means cleaner ponds\, lakes\, streams\, rivers\, and a cleaner Lake Michigan!\n\n \n\nThis opportunity is for volunteers seasoned & new\, regardless of prior experience! Shirley Heinze staff will show you what procedures to practice when collecting samples and how to use provided equipment. We will be available to answer any questions you may have. The water monitoring season runs from April 2025 to October 2025 and is open to adults over 18 or children over 15 with an adult present. With this opportunity in mind\, we warmly welcome you to join us regardless of your ability to volunteer with us. Let's learn about nature together.\n\n \n\nPurpose of water quality monitoring:\n\n \n\nThis training is designed to actively involve community members\, students\, educators\, and a broad array of local partners in the preservation of our watershed. By engaging in the monitoring of critical sites\, educational outreach about the significance of maintaining water quality\, and organizing public events\, we aim to foster a sense of stewardship for our community's watersheds. The data collected through these activities is crucial for developing effective conservation strategies and underscores the importance of protecting our local water quality.
