SUMMARY:Rise\, Shine and Share Portage-United Against Opioid Abuse
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for Rise\, Shine and Share Portage. This event offers Greater Portage Chamber of Commerce members the opportunity to share their ideas\, business strategies and successes\, and to exchange business referrals. The goal of the program is to increase business for our members. \n\n\n\nUnited Way of Porter County is investing in resources to bring together partners across the region to work together to address the substance abuse that is taking lives and impacting communities. We have seen a rise in opioid abuse and the fatalities and the societal affects from them. Moms are driving across multiple counties to have a baby\, being turned away because they are high-risk and have had no prenatal. We have corporations who are supporting treatment prior to hiring because we face a shortage of workers. \n\nDrug poisonings are now the leading cause of death in Indiana and drug overdoses are 90% of those deaths. From 2015 to 2016\, Porter County saw a 45% rise in opioid drug-related deaths and 134% increase of non-fatal opioid overdose visits to the emergency room.\n\nUsers are accessing family and friends' medicine cabinet to reach 66% of the dosages they are using. \n\nWe are stronger together and no ONE agency can solve this alone. There is not one-size-fits-all plan for those who seek recovery. United Way\, working together with Lake and LaPorte can address the gaps we see in this threat facing our neighbors and family. \n\nCome meet the United Way team that IS United Against Opioid and Substance Abuse.
